School of Kindness

History of the school

Welcome to English School Lyon (ESL), a bilingual French–English school located in the heart of Marcy-l’Étoile.

From the first year of preschool (Petite Section) to the final year of primary school (CM2), 50% of teaching time is in English and 50% in French. Children learn and discover the world through both languages, in a caring, forward-looking environment with high educational standards.

At ESL, every child is welcomed for who they are: curious, unique and full of potential. We believe school should be a place of joy, respect and discovery, where children build confidence and learn to grow together. Two languages, two cultures, one shared commitment: supporting every child’s learning and personal growth.

A School Unlike Any Other

At ESL, we do more than teach. We guide each child to develop their strengths, learn to cooperate, take risks, and flourish fully. ESL is a school that supports the success of every student.

Our pedagogy is based on active and differentiated methods, adapted to each age and stage of development. Our teachers, all native or perfectly bilingual in English instruction, work in pairs with a French teacher in every class to ensure constant linguistic immersion.

A close-knit community

Families are an integral part of school life. Thanks to the Parents’ Association, the Team ESL, parents can get involved in projects, events, and build lasting connections around shared values: high standards, kindness, responsibility, and cooperation.

🌱 A stimulating educational environment, combining academic rigor, freedom of expression, and creativity.

🌍 A full bilingual immersion, fostering openness, confidence, and natural mastery of both languages.

👫 A passionate and committed team, attentive to the needs of each child and their families.

🏡 A green and secure environment, designed to encourage curiosity and well-being.
